Preventative programs are aimed at keeping Gitxsan children safe, healthy and out of foster care. In each community, a GCFSS Family Facilitator plans and carries out a variety of preventative programs and events, according to that community’s specific needs. Preventative programs include:
Training & Workshops
Our training and workshops have been customized to meet the needs of our community members. Topics include: suicide prevention, youth sexual exploitation, bullying prevention, HIV/AIDS, positive Indian parenting, and Gitxsan Parenting.
Support groups for men, women, youth, elders and children have all been offered, according to community need.
Events held in our communities include: the ‘Honouring our Babies’ gathering, a mothers and grandmothers gathering, a fathers and grandfathers gathering, family fun nights, and community potlucks and luncheons.
Culture Camps & Special Projects
Family Facilitators run culture camps to reintroduce Gitxsan people to their heritage and traditions. We also offer special projects such as the 3D project.
